China backs int'l efforts for peaceful use of nuclear power
China says it will continue working with the international community to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang told a nuclear energy conference in Beijing that the Chinese Government always stands for the complete prohibition and thorough destruction of nuclear weapons and firmly opposes proliferation of nuclear weapons in any form.
He said China would continue fulfilling its international obligation and join with other countries and international organizations to strengthen the international non-proliferation system and promote the peaceful use of nuclear power.
China debates law on mobilization
China's lawmakers have met, on how and when, the country's military, should be mobilized.
They're focusing on times of war and emergencies.
The draft national defense mobilization law, is one of several proposed laws, the National People's Congress' Standing Committee is studying.
China to display nuclear submarines in Qingdao fleet parade
China will display its nuclear powered submarines for the first time in history during a fleet parade to mark the 60th anniversary of the People's Liberation Army Navy.
Ding Yiping, deputy commander of the PLA Navy has told Xinhua that in addition to the fleet parade, there will also be seminars and a sampan race that will be held off the coast of the eastern city of Qingdao during the four-day celebration.
He stressed that China's national defense policy and nuclear strategy is purely defensive in nature, and that the country's naval forces would not pose any threat to other countries.
China's economic planning agency to support rural health care reform
China's chief economic planning body, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), will put more effort into building and perfecting a rural health care system.
Zhang Ping, the NDRC director, told a work conference that the commission would work with health care departments to invest in projects in China's vast hinterland.
He said the NDRC would improve the medical infrastructure and train more staff in the next three years to improve service in rural areas.
Mainland tour association to end travel permit problems in Taiwan tours
The mainland-based Cross-Straits Tourism Exchange Association (CTEA) says it will consult closely with its Taiwan counterpart to avoid mainland tourists being sent back over travel permit problems.
The statement comes after 37 tourists from Shenyang, Liaoning Province, were sent back Saturday because they did not have adequate entry permits, according to Taiwan media reports. |
