Scilly 与 silly 同音，故英国人戏称愚人列岛。主岛名为圣玛丽 (St. Mary)，岛民以种植花卉为业，销往英国大陆。此外，每天有多艘船只载送观光客周游列岛，早去晚归。圣玛丽无处不飞花，美极了，看她是一种视觉的享受及心灵的慰藉，而且夜不闭户，路不拾遗，堪称世外桃源，英国人一生中若未去过喜利列岛，均引以为憾。
